Hindi cinema veteran and comedian Jagdeep was delivered today (Thursday) at Shia Cemetery in Mazgaon, Mumbai. On this occasion, family and friends bid him farewell with moist eyes. During his illustrious career of nearly 60s, Jagdeep has done many important roles and films in Hindi cinema.
Jagdeep, who made the world laugh with his comedy, left everyone crying at 8.30 pm on Wednesday (July 8). 81-year-old Jagdeep had health problems due to his age. His last rites were performed on Thursday afternoon. Many friends and well-wishers arrived to shoulder Jagdeep’s body. Son Javed Jaffrey and Naved Jaffrey carried the father on his shoulder to the cemetery. Javed’s son Meezan also arrived to bid farewell to his legendary grandfather.
Veteran actor Johnny Lever tweeted to remember Jagdeep- This was Rishte Tutte Na Meri film and the first time I faced the camera with Legend Jagdeep Bhai with me. Miss you May his soul rest in peace. Our condolences to the family. Johnny Lever also arrived for Jagdeep’s last visit.
Jagdeep had acted in more than 250 films in his career. His character Surma Bhopali in Hindi cinema’s Milestone film Sholay made him famous by this name. Comic artists used to have an important role in Hindi cinema at one time. There were certain actors who played this character.
Jagdeep featured prominently in such artists. The special thing is that Jagdeep’s performance had a different style of its own. His gestures, his way of communicating, set him apart from others. Jagdeep started his film career with Child Artist BR Chopra’s film Afsana.
Now not far from Delhi, he worked as a child artist in Munna, Across and Do Bigha Zamin. Jagdeep was well received for the film Hum Panchhi Ek Dal. Pandit Jawahar Nehru, happy with his work, gave his personal stick to him as a gift.
Jagdeep played lead roles in some films including Bhabhi, Barkha and Bindiya. Jagdeep established himself as a comic actor from the Brahmachari film. Jagdeep was one of the comedians on which songs were also filmed.
