Ramayana, which aired on Doordarshan after nearly 30 years during the Corona virus lockdown, has opened up a lot of memories, many of which have re-surfaced in the past. Actors Arun Govil, Deepika Chikhaliya and Sunil Lahiri are sharing those memories through social media.
Deepika, who plays Sita in the Ramayana, has now shared a very interesting picture on Instagram, featuring Arun Govil who plays Ram, producer-director Ramanand Sagar and himself along with former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
This picture looks like an honor ceremony. Deepika wrote giving information with it – this was the first time, when we were honored. We realized that we were partners in the great legacy of the Ramayana. We had created history. We remember the day when we got a call from Delhi to meet the Prime Minister.
Ramayana also created a history in the journey of Indian TV. The records made by the popularity of this serial are still intact. The serial also achieved new heights in re-airing. The actors playing the roles of Ram, Sita and Laxman became revered throughout the country.
The interesting coincidence is that this picture of Deepika has come at a time when on Twitter, Arun Govil said in response to a fan’s question that no government has given him any respect. Despite being from Uttar Pradesh, the government there also did not pay any respect. However, while giving a clarification on this tweet, Ram of Ramayana said that he was only answering a question. He had no desire to receive the award. For him, the audience’s love is the most award.
The Ramayana was first broadcast between 25 January 1987 and 31 July 1988. Rajiv Gandhi was the Prime Minister of India during this period.
