The popular web series Hawkeye from Marvel Universe, in which Echo made a partially villainous appearance in 2021, will be followed by Echo’s spinoff, which can be thought of as Hawkeye’s sequel. Echo is a beloved MCU character whose diversity has made her stand out in particular. We first met her in Hawkeye; she is a deaf Native American character. Fans have been enthralled by Echo’s developing backstory from the show’s inception through its development, and her eventual achievement of what Hawkeye had already demonstrated at the series’ turning point. However, there is debate over whether Echo merits its own television series.
Who Is Echo In Comics?
Because there aren’t many disabled Marvel characters who require cultural education, Echo is a unique superhero who merits his own series. Regarding this, Alaqua Cox’s admirable performance has made Echo’s character’s struggle seem more real because she is both deaf and Native American in real life.
The first appearance of Maya Lopez, also known as Echo, occurred in Daredevil #9 from 1999. In the comics, Echo is portrayed as a fearless martial artist and Daredevil’s partner, but she also has a tragic and motivational backstory that prompted her to take down the notorious Kingpin. Father of Echo, a.k.a. Maya Lopez, was William Lopez, a partner in crime with the Kingpin. Little Maya, who was deaf from birth, also possessed the mysterious photographic reflex. But she needed a major shock to become aware of this talent she possessed. Kingpin adopted Maya at William’s last request after killing Maya’s father. Her father’s bloody handprint left a mark on her face that would later come to define her appearance. Maya was sent to a special boarding school where she learned about her gifted abilities and worked hard to master them because Kingpin was aware of her deafness and her unique memory power. She developed into a proficient musician and artist who danced just as well. But as she grew older, she developed into a skilled martial artist who only learned how to fight by watching the action movies of Daredevil and Bullseye. Kingpin was impressed by her talent and exploited her as a pawn to get back at Daredevil. By claiming that Daredevil was responsible for the death of her father, Kingpin poisoned Maya’s heart with the venom of retaliatory thoughts. To get revenge, Maya went out to track down Daredevil. Despite having a sexual relationship with Matt Murdock and not knowing that he was Daredevil, she did not think twice about trying to kill him. Maya observed Daredevil’s facial scar, which resembled Matt’s, while they battled. Maya recognised Matt Murdock, her boyfriend, as Daredevil. Later, Matt told her that Kingpin was actually responsible for her father’s murder. Kingpin was rendered blind as a result of Maya’s vengeance attack, which she carried out on the streets of New York. While in comic books, Maya frequently appears to have collaborated with the New Avengers. She was slain and then revived countless times as well. Elektra, the head of The Hand, and Nefaria later murdered her in Los Angeles. She returns to Murdock and discovers him with someone else, causing her to suffer another grief.
She collaborated inadvertently with Clint Barton, Wolverine, and other Avengers while working as an undercover agent. The first Ronin, according to the comics, was Maya Lopez, who allowed Clint Barton to become the second. She later gained notoriety as the Phoenix Force’s commander. She also made a brief appearance in the Moon Knight comic book series, working as an undercover agent in a strip club to apprehend a west coast criminal group. However, while Moon Knight was stepping in, a spark of romance began to fly between them.
Echo s Role In The 2021 Series Hawkeye
The first Ronin in Brian Michael Bendis’ New Avengers #11 was Maya Lopez, who is depicted in a complete reversal in the Hawkeye 2021 series. Maya, the boss of the Tracksuit Mafia gang, appears throughout the series as a minor antagonist. She was born without a limb and instead was given a mechanical one; nonetheless, as evidenced by her backstory, she is a fierce warrior. But when Maya recognises Ronin as her father’s murderer, the narrative takes a different turn. But in truth, it was Kingpin who gave Clint Barton the idea to assassinate Will Lopez after Thanos’ snap, when Clint changed from Hawkeye to Ronin. When Maya eventually finds out the truth, she shoots Kingpin to exact her retribution.
What To Expect From Echo s Spinoff Series?
Since Echo’s planned spinoff series has already finished filming, it seems likely that we will see Echo on Disney’s screens in 2023. But speculation and varied viewpoints have already started to surface among Marvel fans. The Echo series is eagerly anticipated by the entire fanbase. We’re interested to see where the plot of Maya Lopez’s story goes, especially since Charlie Cox and Vincent D Onofri have already committed to returning to Echo. Since Kate Bishop took over as Hawkeye after Clint Barton retired, it is reasonable to expect that Kate will make an appearance in Echo. We have increased the likelihood that the two of them will engage in fierce conflict with Kingpin because neither of them lacks desire for vengeance against him.
The question of whether the Kingpin is still alive is currently the most concerning of all the rumours. The answer is affirmative, as we only heard gunfire at the final end rather than witnessing Kingpin’s on-screen demise. The comics claim that Maya blinded him rather than killing him. So, the Kingpin will be alive in the upcoming season. The Kingpin will play a key sinister role in the show due to his history with Maya and the subsequent claim of his alleged blindness. It’s unclear how much of Maya’s love relationship with Matt Murdock will be revealed in this episode or how the plot will go if it does. Matt Murdock’s entrance instead makes us wait for any surprises because the revelation that Clint Barton is Ronin, the man who killed Maya’s father, has already changed the course of Echo’s narrative. Either Maya and Matt will engage in a thrilling duel, or they will work together to strike the Kingpin.
In this next MCU series, several Avengers or other superhero or antihero appearances are also anticipated, such as Wolverine to Moon Knight or Nefaria to Elektra, etc. However, since the series will continue based on Echo, it is hoped that it will be able to rely on more than just the cameo. We want to learn more about Maya Lopez personally. This series may become more popular with viewers if Echo’s Phoenix Force appears and a fresh plot is developed. Etan Cohen and Emily Cohen, who previously worked on Men in Black III and Madagascar, will serve as the project’s main writers, thus we may expect an intriguing plot to emerge.
