Good Morning, Veronica, a Brazilian series on Netflix, follows Veronica Torres, a police records clerk who wanted to follow in her father Julio Torres’ footsteps and work as a police detective. Yet nothing was as easy as it seemed. Former police chief Julio Torres was facing corruption charges and was about to be taken into custody when he escaped the police and went right to his home, where he shot his wife to death and then made an attempt on his own life but managed to survive. Special investigation agencies thought Julio committed suicide. However, in order to prevent anyone from ever finding him, his close friend, Homicide Chief Wilson Carvana, admitted a paraplegic Julio to a private nursing home under a different identity. Only a select few people, including Julio’s daughter Veronica, who cared for her father who was unable to move or talk due to the accident, were aware of his survival at the time. Wilson Carvana used his connections to get Veronica a job as a records clerk at the murder division, but she really wanted to be a detective so that she could learn the truth about the tragic night and her father’s involvement in it. The fact that Veronica refused to accept that her father could murder her mother followed her throughout Season 1.
Salutations, Veronica Two criminal cases were the primary subjects of Season 1. Marta Campos, a character in the first episode of the series, arrived at the police station and asked Wilson Carvana for assistance. When Wilson declined to assist her in filing a report against a con artist she met on the dating website Ideal Love, she shot herself at the station in front of Veronica, which made Veronica become obsessed with the case.
Gregorio Duarte, the con artist’s original identity, used to make bogus identifications on the dating app, target the most helpless ladies, and then set them up on dates. He would mix homemade roofies into their drinks at the restaurant and then take pictures of them while they were exposed in order to blackmail and steal from them. Following Marta’s suicide, Tania, another lady, came forward and assisted the police in apprehending Gregorio. But, a flawed court system quickly resulted in his release. Even worse, Tania was in a coma when Veronica learned that she had been pushed in front of the speeding bus. Because they lacked evidence, Nelson Morales and Veronica were positive that Gregorio had persuaded Tania to exact revenge on her.
The second significant instance involved a 35-year-old woman named Janete Cruz who resided with her husband, a lieutenant colonel in the military police named Claudio Antunes Brandao. After each loss, Claudio used to physically and mentally abuse Janete because she had a string of miscarriages and he desperately wanted a boy. Nevertheless, the abuse did not stop there. Claudio was a member of a group of missionaries who revered Our Lady of the Head. Claudio used to kidnap women who had recently arrived in Brazil searching for work, take them to a remote ranch with Janete’s assistance, and then leave them there. He used to physically assault these ladies in an underground bunker, and while doing so, he kept a wooden box on Janete’s head so she could hear their screams and see the horror through the box’s pinhole.
Following Marta’s suicide, Veronica urged the victims of domestic abuse to come out so that the police could shield them from their abusers. When Janete saw Veronica on the news, she got in touch with her to let her know the truth about Claudio. But, since Veronica was simply a police clerk and Claudio had a high-ranking position in the military police, it was challenging for Janete to establish the facts about his crimes. At the conclusion of Season 1 of Good Morning, Veronica, Veronica learned that her police captain, Anita Berlinger, had attempted to kill her in order to protect Claudio. Wilson, however, was aware of Anita’s scheme and made every effort to assist Veronica at every turn, even pleading with her to leave the nation with her husband, Paulo, and their two children. In order to further examine the case, Veronica instead dispatched Paulo and her children. She later discovered an old case called Cosmas and Damian that her father was working on prior to his suicide attempt.
The orphanage Cosmas and Damian was closed down because it was implicated in child trafficking. Anita Berlinger belonged to the same orphanage, as Veronica learned after doing more research. The management at Cosmas and Damian used to cultivate young people who would eventually occupy significant positions in the political, judicial, and law enforcement spheres in order to infiltrate the system. For this reason, Anita and the police commissioner were prepared to assassinate Veronica, which led Veronica to believe that Janete’s husband, Claudio, was a part of the corrupt system. Nevertheless, Veronica realised that there was no legal way for her to assist Janete at this point, so she threw a toxic roofie in the trash and sent a letter to Janete telling her to kill her husband to put an end to this horror. On the day of the subsequent ritual, Janete combined the poison in Claudio’s jug with the intention that he would drink it; however, Claudio’s grandmother, who used to carry out the ritual, drank it instead. Claudio’s grandma passed away there and there, and in retaliation, he burned Janete alive.
He later discovered a number in Janete’s puzzle book while purging the house of her possessions. When he dialled the number, which belonged to Veronica’s desk, Wilson Carvana answered the phone because Veronica was not there. Claudio swiftly kidnapped Wilson and transported him to his ranch where he would be buried alive since he thought Wilson had given Janete the poison flask. When Veronica arrived at Janete’s house at that same moment, she discovered her puzzle book. Shortly thereafter, Nelson called to let her know that they had discovered Wilson’s automobile abandoned on the streets. Because she was able to make connections, Veronica quickly found Claudio’s hidden acreage. But, she was unable to save Wilson. The same way he killed Janete, she kidnapped Claudio and burned him to death within the bunker. At this time, Veronica planned to report herself to the police, but she quickly discovered that Carlos Alberto, the Police Chief, was a part of the corrupt system, so she chose to go on the run in order to overthrow the corrupt system and clear her father’s name. Before finally leaving the scene, Veronica filmed one final video for her children and said her last goodbyes.
Two months later, 15 remains were discovered at a private ranch in Serra da Cantareira after the police received an anonymous tip. Anita told the journalists in the report that three of the 15 bodies were those of the cops who were secretly working on the case. Wilson, Veronica, and Claudio were them. So, Anita and Carlos continued to work to clear Claudio’s name of the terrible crime he did even after it was too late. Victor Prata, a friend of Veronica’s, assisted her in fabricating a false autopsy report that she used to persuade Anita and the whole public that Janete’s entirely burned dead body belonged to Veronica. Although Veronica assumed Janete’s identity to look into the missionary group, the police thought that Claudio’s wife was still alive someplace. Veronica made the decision to catch the Cosmas and Damian orphanage in the act and put a halt to their unethical behaviour after learning through Wilson that the original orphanage had been closed down but that a second one was secretly operating. Yet in order to do that, Veronica would have to temporarily leave her home and family, a sacrifice she was willing to undertake.
The con artist Gregorio Duarte was ready for his next victim when the first season of Good Morning, Veronica ended, and Veronica, disguised as a server, handed him a free drink. He began coughing violently as soon as he sipped the beverage that Veronica had poisoned. He most likely passed away shortly after, and for all the ladies he had defrauded, that was the ultimate justice they were looking for. Although the legal system may have let them down, Veronica made the decision to finally exact her vengeance and to overthrow her archenemy.
