He wasn’t merely a soldier, as stated in one of the opening lines of the movie Major. He led a completely independent life. We see a man whose life, as much as his acts on the battlefield, made him a hero. Many of his accomplishments during the 26/11 assaults have been made public knowledge. The film gives us a better understanding of the difficulties he encountered and the extent of his bravery, but it also gives us a peek of the unbreakable spirit of independence he carried within himself, which brought life and happiness to everyone around him. We love this movie for more reasons than just the fact that it is about a well-known war hero. We adore it because it causes us to fall in love with the man—his charm, his zest for life, and—most importantly—his capacity to live his life in accordance with his values while yet following his heart. Let’s examine how the film tells the tale of his life.
The Early Years Of Sandeep Unnikrishnan And His Love Story With Neha
The first scene in Major features Sandeep Unnikrishnan’s father berating his son for entering the PoK region. Sandeep answers calmly that it is ours, meaning it belongs to India. The next scene flashes back to Sandeep’s early years. He appears to be a curious youngster who claims to adore uniforms. Even though his father wants him to become a doctor, he has always been attracted by the Navy and is determined to join them. He works quietly toward his goals while keeping them to himself. Sandeep is depicted as being slightly frightened of the things around him as a child and frequently asks his sister to protect him. He idolises his father and consumes much too many Arnold Schwarzenegger motion pictures. He develops into a popular and diligent student as he gets older. He meets Neha, a new classmate, one day, and falls in love with her right away. Due to both of her parents’ abandoning her in favour of their own companies and social life, Neha is a lonely teenager. She smiles when Sandeep enters the room and explains that he is spending time with her not because she is alone but rather so that she won’t be. She gradually begins to warm up to him since there is a very thin line between sympathy and genuine care.
Neha learns that Sandeep wants to join the Navy as they begin to fall in love with one another. When he is being reprimanded by his father for applying in the first place while carrying his rejection letter in his hand, she learns this. Neha is aware that he won’t be stopped by this one rejection. She already makes time compromises with her parents, therefore she is not willing to do it with him. She makes this clear to him, helping him to understand that enlisting in the Navy is not the only option for becoming a soldier. Sandeep decides to enlist in the Army, and despite his father’s initial reservations, he receives his approval. Sandeep writes Neha numerous letters while he is at the NDA but never gets a response. He learns one day that his letters were never delivered to their intended recipients. Not only that, but a meddling classmate acting out of spite and jealousy prevented him from receiving even her letters. When he learns that Neha will be departing for Switzerland in two days, he makes haste to meet her. He clarifies the situation and informs her that although he won’t have much time, whatever he does have will be hers. Before agreeing to enter into a relationship, they declare their love for one another. As we all know, they eventually get married and move on with their lives.
Sandeep Unnikrishnan In The 26/11 Attacks
Sandeep is a training officer and is not sent on missions as per the norms. However, he asks to go with the assignment after realising the urgency of the situation. He and his group had very little to work with when they arrived at the hotel. The architect of the hotel is away, so all they could get was a hand-drawn plan, but the terrorists have a comprehensive blueprint of the location. The conventional procedures don’t work because they have little knowledge about the terrorists. Sandeep, however, inspires everyone by claiming that their intelligence and bravery are sufficient. Despite the care with which they were documented on camera, it is difficult to adequately explain the atrocities of that day. It is sufficient to say that Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan saves as many people as he can while maintaining his composure.
His parents appear in a scene that absolutely wrenched our hearts. The father of Sandeep believes his son has not left on the mission. But because no one can tell him where he is exactly, he is unable to shake the uncertainty in his heart. He just receives the information that he has left as a response. His father is aware in his heart of hearts. But his mother seems to be unaware. She ignores Sandeep’s call because she wants to show him that she is not the only one who can be disregarded, oblivious to the fact that she likely passed up the opportunity to speak with him one more time.
Major Ending: Does Sandeep Unnikrishnan Rescue The Hostages?
The happenings on that fatal night are all well known. We are aware that the Major, who was killed in the process of cornering four terrorists, said his last words, “Don’t come up, I’ll handle it.” Such extraordinary bravery and selflessness will never be matched in any story. Yes, the major was successful in freeing the hostages, and he was happy to offer his life in the process. Because becoming a soldier entails doing that. Your duty to your country and your fellow citizens is your most important relationship. Family and you come next. We will always be proud of him for his bravery since he died a hero’s death while doing what he loved most—serving his nation.
Final Thoughts- What Works And What Doesn t For The Film?
After the actual tale, the casting was the highlight of the film. It’s incredible how much Adivi Sesh truly resembles the character. Revathi is a breath of fresh air, and Prakash Raj never ceases to be a treat to watch on screen. Saiee Manjrekar appears dreamy enough for the role that was assigned to her. Beautiful actors and actresses gave their all to the movie, and it was evident. Both the music and the action sequences are superbly choreographed. In those scenes, the movie literally gives us an adrenaline boost. We also shed a few tears at the highly nuanced depiction of the emotional sacrifices made by a soldier’s family and the courage it takes to witness a loved one put their nation above anything else.
We are unsure whether to criticise the duration of the film as something that doesn’t work. Even though we thoroughly loved it, we couldn’t help but question whether some of the elements might not have been unnecessary. The disclaimer notes that some artistic licence was used with the actual occurrences. We might have had a clearer plot with a more powerful impact if they had restrained themselves in that area. Whatever the case, it was a lovely movie, and we enjoyed spending the day doing so. Truly, Adivi Sesh’s charm is too contagious for his own good, and Prakash Raj ought to be in every movie ever made. In the future, we anticipate seeing more of them.
