Many old shows of 80s and 90s have been re-launched on Doordarshan to entertain people during the corona virus lockdown. Talking about the list of old TV shows, there are many shows ranging from Ramanand Sagar’s ‘Ramayana’ to BR Chopra’s ‘Mahabharata’ and Dr. Chandraprakash Dwivedi’s ‘Chanakya’. These shows are getting tremendous TRPs. These TV shows have broken all TRP records so far. At the same time, some actors of the shows released on Doordarshan are demanding royalty. A war has now erupted between producers and the star.
Famous actress Pallavi Joshi, who plays an important role in the TV serial ‘Buniyaad’, has recently made her point about royalty. Pallavi has said during a conversation with Deccan Herald, ‘There should have been talk about royalty only when these shows came to the original. Producers are getting money to re-air these shows. They should share its profit. Because they are not doing any extra work to re-run these shows. Rather due to not being royalty, many times actors have to do the work they do not want to do. This should have happened much earlier.
In the same interview, Pallavi Joshi further said, ‘The channel has not produced any show and to re-run the show, the producers have to work hard. In such a situation, when the producers are getting extra money, then they should share some part of it with the actors and technicians too. Especially at a time when some people are struggling to even feed their children. ‘
At the same time, according to a report of Wahindustan Times, Sita of ‘Ramayan’ i.e. actress Deepika Chikhaliya also agrees with this talk of Pallivi Joshi.
After hearing this talk of Pallavi Joshi, Dr. Chandraprakash Dwivedi, the director of ‘Chanakya’ and who played the lead role in it, made his point. Speaking to Hindustan Times, he said, ‘This is the wrong time to raise the issue of royalty. As far as I know the producers have not demanded any money in view of such circumstances. Everyone has agreed to do it absolutely free. ‘
She further said, ‘I am not against the concept of giving royalty, just this time is not right to raise such demands. If there was a normal time, these shows would not have been re-released and this is not the first time they have been re-released. ‘
